Thomas Billhardt: Die Augen weit offen
Fotografiska Berlin, Oranienburger Straße 54, 10117 Berlin, Mitte
About
The exhibition Thomas Billhardt – Die Augen weit offen at Fotografiska Berlin presents the photographic work of a major German postwar documentary photographer. Curated by Claire Ducresson-Boët together with the CAMERA WORK Gallery, it gathers key series spanning several decades, with a focus on the years 1959 to 1972, from Berlin street scenes to dispatches from Vietnam and pictures from Cuba. Thomas Billhardt (1937–2025) used the camera as an instrument of radical curiosity, capturing unposed moments of everyday life and the vitality pulsing beneath rigid structures.
